KPMG’s CEO survey found that 72% of leaders say they are prioritising digitalisation and improving connectivity though investments over the next three years, with projects intended to secure organisational growth and first-mover status. This has led to a growing IT skills gap as competition for high-calibre talent increases, particularly those IT professionals with business-critical tech skills.
We’ve been exploring the most popular skills our users have been searching for on Hyerhub's resourcing platform Hubbado, and compared them to recent tech industry trends to come up with a list of the ten most in-demand tech skills in 2023:
1. Network Implementation Digital transformation in the telco, finance and media industries is driving demand for skilled network implementation specialists with the ability to work in specialised spaces. 83% of businesses surveyed say that the size of their networks has grown in the past year. Competition will be fierce for implementation professionals who can identify, build, configure speciality networks quickly and efficient and with experience of managing high-level projects end-to-end.
2. Data Monitoring Tools & Management Whether your infrastructure implementation is cloud based, on-site or hybrid it will require continuous delivery, deployment, and monitoring to ensure optimal performance. Organisations looking to drive business decision making and determine project implementation efficiency must attract professionals with up-to-date experience of data monitoring tech, tools and management.
3. Python Fast, safe, and scalable frameworks make Python an ideal programming language for large-scale coding projects and its accessibility and ease of use mean developers can create powerful applications quickly. Its popularity going into 2023 is also being driven by its usefulness for cloud transformations, data analytics and for integrating machine learning and AI meaning that nearly 50% of developers globally use Python.
4. Certified network and cloud engineers
80% of IT hiring managers believe CCNA or CCNP certified employees are more knowledgeable than non-certified employees and three quarters say they bring greater value. This is why 64% of IT professionals are Cisco certified, or in the process of becoming certified. Hyerhub are unique as we have CCIE certified experts at the heart of our business, our industry knowledge makes it easier to source the right Cisco certified consultants than ever. Devnet certification is also gaining popularity with employers looking for multi skilled engineers that have network, automation and development skills.
In our consultant community we have numerous certified network professionals including:
173 CCIES 10 JNCIEs 8 CWNPs 46 AWS CSAs 4 Azure Networking Certification professionals 5. Cloud networking 90% of large enterprises have adopted a multi-cloud infrastructure for 2023. Continued cloud adoption for all organisations is also expected in 2023. Cloud operators have made it easy to consume and buy, but there are still complexities that need to be understood to ensure a secure, resilient, and supportable cloud network. In a world of multiple cloud suppliers, there still aren’t enough cloud networking specialists to handle rapidly growing demand heading into 2023.
6. Network Design The size and complexity of the network’s businesses rely on is growing exponentially. 49% of organisations with over 1000+ employees have more than 1,000 network devices and 21% have over 10,000 devices. Additionally, new technologies such as the Cloud are driving innovation in network design with increasing demand for network designers with experience in the development, delivery and build of SD-WAN, zero-trust networks, and remote access solutions.
7. Network Support As companies become more reliant on increasingly complex on-site, hybrid and Cloud networks, expert network support staff will be critical to maintaining business functions. Good network support keeps customers and employees safe, secure and productive. 36% of businesses say they need technical network support skills urgently. Crucially, you should be looking for network support staff with familiarity in Infrastructure, Development, Security, and Data and the ability to problem solve quickly.
8. Network Deployment
The field of network deployment is being driven by demand for smarter, faster network deployments using automation and optimisation. Implementation of new tech such as 5G in the telecommunications industry is increasing the need for new, more efficient ways to reduce lead times, increase ROI and manage operational performance.
9. Data Centre Skills 50% of data centre owners are struggling to hire the skills they need to manage the transition to Cloud and the adoption of hybrid data centre models. Developers with Cloud computing, integration and automation skills will continue to be in high demand throughout 2023 as businesses manage large amounts of data to gain a competitive edge without sacrificing security and efficiency. Competition for data centre managers with the ability to leverage data analytics to drive decision-making will also be high.
10. JavaScript By far the most popular programming language with 65% of front-end developers using it to power web and mobile development, JavaScript’s popularity amongst employers shows no sign of slowing down in 2023. JavaScript frameworks and skills to look out for in 2023 include React JS used by big names such as Sky, Reddit, Meta and Tesla, Git and Node JS.
